Kantate was released on the portrait CD of Internationales Kompositionsseminar by Ensemble Modern.

For some years now, my compositional work has concentrated on the idea of "music with music": reproductions of music are collaged and digitally altered, re-contextualized with live instruments and overwritten. Through all possible processing techniques - cutting, transposing, filtering, layers, damping etc. - and instrumental combinations I explore the field between "pure" sounds with a certain parametric order and "meaningful" sounds with empirical values.

As material I mainly use flat, anonymous pop music, which can be used as a medium for a new music. It is also the everyday acoustic reality, the media noise, which I musicalize again (I deliberately use poor Mp3 quality for this). In the cantata... Now there is own and traditional music, "ePlayer"-recordings (a term of the philosopher Harry Lehmann, i.e. a score for traditional instruments is played by instrumental samples on the computer) and single tones from instrumental sound databases as well as beyond the music context also material from the soundtracks of the movies Scenes of a marriage, Blade Runner and a Turkish movie I don't know myself. The whole montage could be called "media music"; the work is a network of musical-self-referential, political and personal contents.

The mixture of the own and the foreign, the difference between abstract phonetics and concrete semantics always concerns identity - philosophically and socio-psychologically, but also legally-copyrighted, in view of the globally networked exchange of digital goods today. The legal basis of my material is usually unclear. That shows: The question of identity is a question of freedom.
